Worcester County opens new thrift shop

The Worcester County Humane Society is  opening up a new thrift shop in west Ocean City in April.

The organization is trying to bring in extra funds so its animal shelter can become more self-sufficient.

"As we've noticed with other non-profits, they're setting up [thrift stores]…, and they're making decent money for their non-profits organizations," said Mary Martinez, board member for the Worcester County Humane Society.

They are looking for more volunteers to help paint, clean up and process donations. Donations can include gently used clothing, housewares, books and even pet items and will be accepted in early April.

"We would love for people to call us and sign up to do some painting, and we have all the supplies, all of the equipment ready to work," said Martinez.

Interested volunteers and/or donators can contact Martinez at 410-382-2661.

"Hand in hand, all these things go together to support our shelter and make it more self-sufficient," she said.
