Unconscious driver arrested on DUI charges in Wicomico Co.

A man was arrested after deputies say he was passed out behind the steering wheel on the wrong side of a Wicomico County roadway.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says on Thursday, just before 5:50 AM, a deputy noticed that a vehicle was sitting on Jersey Road at a stop sign for Waller Road for an excessive amount of time. Deputies also say the  vehicle was on the wrong side of the road.

After further investigation, authorities say the deputy discovered the driver, 25-year-old Aaron Carey of Delmar, MD, was passed out behind the steering  wheel.  According to the report, the deputy noticed a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage when he awakened Carey.

Carey apparently was unable to successfully complete sobriety testing and he was arrested.

Carey was charged with failure to drive right of center, driving while impaired, and driving under the influence of alcohol Per Se.

He then received citations and was released to a sober driver.
