Transportation officials urge drivers to allow extra time for their commute as a road work project begins in Worcester County.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration says on Monday, they will begin to replace aging draining pipes on MD 611 (Stephen Decatur Highway), between Antique Road and Landings Boulevard, in Berlin. Officials say the work is set for everyday between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM, until Friday, March 9.

Drivers will be redirected to U.S. 50 (Ocean Gateway) to US 113 (Worcester Highway) to MD 376 (Assateague Road) and back to MD 611.

Transportation officials say crews will begin milling (removal of the top layer of asphalt) MD 611 between MD 376 and US 50 as part of a four-mile resurfacing project that will improve ride quality in the area.

According to MDOT, the $1.7 million resurfacing project will be complete by the end of April.
