Parent forum called in wake of high school fight

An open forum for the community has been called following the cafeteria incident that led to 12 arrests at Cambridge South-Dorchester High School this past week.

A parent forum, as it's called, is scheduled for Monday night at 7 PM at the Chesapeake College on Race Street in Cambridge.  Everyone who wants to lend their voice or listen is encouraged to attend, including those from the school district or law enforcement.

The goal of the forum, we're told, is to develop an action plan to take more proactive action instead of reactive action when faced with violence in schools.

This forum comes the day before a special Dorchester County Public Schools board meeting on Tuesday.

"Our kids are most precious gift that's been given to us.  And I think we owe it to them, and not only them, it's our school administration and staff, too.  They want a secure place and a safe place to work in," said forum organizer Gregory Ribbons, Sr.  "I think we owe it to them as well, to give them a safe environment to work in."

If you attend, you are advised to enter through the back entrance of Chesapeake College.

There is also a Take Back Our Schools Parent and Student open discussion for Bennett Middle School at 219 South Fruitland Boulevard at 6 PM Monday night on a similar issue.
