One dead after Frederica crash; investigation ongoing
A crash remains under investigation after troopers say a woman died as a result of the incident that happened in a Kent County intersection.
Delaware State Police says on Sunday, around 9:15 PM, 57-year-old Anna Tharp, of Felton, was driving a 2013 Silver Chevrolet Impala westbound on Bowers Beach Road, approaching the traffic light at Bay Road. Troopers say a 2016 white Kia Soul was traveling northbound on Bay Road in the right lane approaching the traffic light at Bowers Beach Road. Authorities say both vehicles entered the intersection when the Kia struck the Impala in the driver's side door.
According to the report, the Impala began to spin off the roadway and hit a concrete barrier with its front end. The vehicle apparently came to a stop there. Troopers say the Kia, driven by a 43-year-old Essex, MD man, also started to spin off the roadway, striking a concrete barrier with its rear bumper.
DSP reports that Tharp was removed from the scene and taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital were she was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. Law enforcement says the 57-year-old was wearing a seat belt and impairment does not appear to be a factor on her behalf at this time.
According to troopers, the driver the Kia and its passengers, a 42-year-old woman from Middle River, MD, and a 12-year-old child were all removed from the scene and taken to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital.
The 43-year-old and 42-year-old were reportedly admitted with non-life threatening injuries. Officials say the child was treated and released with minor injuries. Troopers say all of the occupants of the Kia were properly restrained and impairment does not appear to be a factor on behalf of the driver at this time.
Bay Road at Bowers Beach Road was closed for approximately 4 hours.
