New pilot program instills love of sports and team building at Pocomoke Middle School
Pocomoke Middle School has launched a new pilot program that provides recreational sports opportunities to over 90 students from fourth through eighth grade each Monday through Thursday from 5 until 8 P.M. The goal of the new program is to expose children to sports and then to serve as a feeder program for the high school. Ten volunteers help coach and referee the games where students are learning how to play basketball, soccer, baseball and softball.
"This being an after school program it doesn't cost them anything. We've provided them with some t shirts of various colors to designate their teams and its just a good program for kids down here that just didn't have anything to do or a place to go for recreation," said District One County Commissioner Merrill Lockfaw.
