A man is in custody after police say he was involved in a robbery that happened at a store in Salisbury.

The Salisbury Police Department says on Saturday, around 5:30 AM,  officers responded to the Royal Farms, at 101 North Salisbury Boulevard, for a reported robbery. Once on scene, police say a 53-year-old employee reported that a man was waiting around the counter as she was serving customers.

According to the report, the suspect reached over the counter and grabbed a handful of cash as the employee opened the register to provide change to another customer. The suspect then fled the scene on foot.

During the investigation and review of surveillance footage, officers say they identified the suspect as 60-year-old Michael Eric Lane, of Salisbury. Authorities report that Lane was found hiding within 100 yards of the business.

Lane was charged with theft, assault, and robbery. He is currently being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center pending an initial appearance before the commissioner.
