Deputies search for suspect in connection to armed robbery at Worcester Co. store

An armed robbery is under investigation, after deputies say a man robbed a Worcester County convenience store on Thursday morning.

The Worcester County Sheriff's Office says on Thursday, just before 2:45 AM, deputies responded to the Wine Rack, in the 12800 block of Ocean Gateway, in reference to an armed robbery. Deputies say the Worcester Bureau of Investigation was requested to respond to the scene.

According to Investigators, a man entered the store with a butcher knife and directed the employee to the cash register. Deputies say the suspect then took an undisclosed amount of cash. the suspect then fled the scene heading east.

The suspect is described as an African American male, standing approximately 6'0" tall with a medium build, and wearing a blue New Balance sweatshirt and gray bandana over his face, according to authorities.

Law enforcement says they are reviewing the surveillance tape from the Wine Rack and thee investigation is ongoing.
