Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes, next President of the General Assembly's Women's Caucus

An Eastern Shore delegate was surprised Wednesday morning by her colleagues, when she was selected to be the next president of the General Assembly's Women's Caucus.

Delegate Sheree Sample-Hughes, a democrat, who serves Wicomico and Dorchester Counties was given the news around 9 AM.

The caucus is a bi-partisan group of female legislators and is the oldest women's caucus in the United States.

Wednesday, 47 ABC caught up with Sample-Hughes in Annapolis where she was eager to talk about the honor's historical significance.

"We have awesome women serving in the Maryland General Assembly and we'll be able to propel their ideas and make the effort known across the state that women are at the forefront. And we will continue to make it known that we have policies and we are implementing policies putting them in place to address their concerns," said Del. Sheree Sample-Hughes, District 37A (D).
