Cape Henlopen rumbles back to defeat Stephen Decatur

The Cape Henlopen Vikings boys lacrosse team battled back from a 4-0 deficit early in the first quarter, took their first lead in the fourth quarter, and held on to defeat Stephen Decatur 13-12 in both team's season opener on Friday night in Berlin.

The Seahawks got out to a quick 4-0 midway thru the first, and led 6-2 at the end of one. Cape was able to outscore Decatur 3-2 in the second, but still trailled 8-5 going into halftime.

In the third, the Vikings began to mount a comeback, and we're able to tie the game at 9 headed into the fourth. Cape would take their first lead of the game with 10:53 remaining in the fourth, when Ben Weathersby bounced one past keeper. After another Viking goal, the Seahawks answered with a goal of their own, and a game-tying score by Collin Eichlenberger with just over one minute remaining. The ensuing face-off was won by Cape, and junior Luke D'Ambrogi found classmate Jack Dennis who burried the go-ahead goal with 50 seconds remaining in the game. Decatur would get a final shot off but it would be denied by Vikings keeper Sean Griffith.

Cape Henlopen moves to 1-0 on the year, while Decatur falls to 0-1.
