Veterinarians say, your pets can catch the flu from you
When it comes to the flu, you're not the only one who should be worried. Turns out your pets can catch it too.
Local veterinarians say it is rare, but it can happen.
Many of us want to cuddle our pets when we're not feeling well, but if you come down with the flu, it's important to find out which kind because animals can catch strains like H1N1.
Lauren Carlson, an Associate Veterinarian at VCA Delmarva Animal Hospital said, "flu virus mutates very quickly, so there are cases of humans getting the swine flu for example and then giving their dogs the swine flu, so it really depends on the strain and if that strain can cross species."
Vets say there are steps you can take to prevent your four-legged friends from catching the flu.
The best thing you can do is take your pet, or pets, to your local vet to get them vaccinated.
