Search for new UMES president begins
The search for University of Maryland Eastern Shore's next president is officially on.
Robert Caret, the Chancellor for The University System of Maryland paid a visit to the university on Monday to speak with alumna, faculty and community leaders.
Caret said he wanted to learn what the UMES community needs and wants from their next leader.
This is just the first step in a six-month long process.
Caret said, "From here, we'll put together the search committee, chair of the search committee, a search firm and that will take us to a point where we're really ready to launch the search. So I think it's going well, we're looking at a six month process starting today and hopefully if everything goes according to plan, we'll have somebody in place by late summer."
UMES's current president, Dr. Juliette Bell, announced her resignation two weeks ago.
Bell will serve through the academic year, which ends June 30th.
