Man in custody after alleged assault over ex-girlfriend’s cell phone
A man is facing charges, after troopers say he kidnapped and assaulted his ex-girlfriend following an argument over her cell phone, in Felton.
Delaware State Police say on Monday, around 10:40 AM, a woman went to her ex-boyfriend's residence, in the unit block of Farmhouse Trail, where an argument began shortly after the woman arrived. The argument was reportedly about a message she received on her cell phone. Troopers say 23-year-old Cahlil Simmons, of Felton, became angry when the woman refused to turn over her cell phone.
According to the report, Simmons began assaulting the victim by holding her down and choking her with his hands on her throat. Simmons then reportedly ordered the victim into the passenger side of her vehicle and drove around while continuing to threaten the victim. Authorities report that they eventually returned back to Simmons residence, where Simmons forced the victim back inside and continued to assault her because he was unable to unlock her phone.
Law enforcement says the next morning, Simmons ordered the victim back into her car and they went to the Dover Mall in an attempt to locate a cell phone store that would unlock the victim's phone. At that time. troopers say the victim was able to escape from Simmons and approached mall Security.
Simmons apparently fled the mall in the victim's vehicle before police arrived.
The Felton man was taken into custody at his residence without incident.
Simmons was charged with kidnapping second degree, assault third degree, menacing, malicious interference, theft of a motor vehicle, theft and terroristic threatening.
He was turned over to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on a $25,300 cash only bond.
