GoFundMe aims to raise funds to take Eastern Shore teens on a college tour

One organization is trying to take Eastern Shore teens on a college tour for free but they need your help.

The group Extraordinary League of Gentlemen, along with two other organizations are hosting their second college tour next month.

They hope to take 12 African American boys from the Eastern Shore. They will visit Johnson C. Smith University along with the University of North Carolina.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for transportation, room and board along with meals.

Organizers tell us this is a crucial opportunity for young adults to visit these institutions and believe they can make it there.

Community activist Jermichael Mitchell tells 47 ABC, "It's an eye opener. A lot of our kids don't go out of the area. A lot of our kids don't even visit SU or UMES, which are the colleges right here on the Eastern Shore. So, it's just an eye opener for our kids to show them the experience about going off being with some positive adults and feeding into their lives anything is possible if they believe so we try to bring that experience to them and keep them positive."

Their goal is to raise $4,000.

They will also attend the CIAA. Organizers say this will offer these young men insight into what it feels like to be enrolled in college and witness life as a student-athlete.
