Abandoned house demolished on Isabella Street

The Salisbury City Field Operation team demolished a house today on 711 Isabella Street after it had been abandoned for five years.

The building was unfit for occupancy, which attracted animals, as well as vagrants to squat, according to officials.

It had several code enforcement violations and started to deteriorate after it was abandoned.

Officials say the city had to apply maintenance for the structure and that they want to bring new development through a new Community Development Block Grant.

“Taking down a structure that looks this bad – just taking one structure down – improves the overall appearance to the street itself,” said Susan Webb, Director of Salisbury Housing and Community Development.

Officials say taking down the building was a success for an ongoing effort to make the Church Street neighborhood a safer place for its residents.
