Nature trail potentially coming to Somerset County

The major corridor leading to Crisfield from Westover could be the site of a major project in Somerset County.

The project revolves around a biking and hiking trail that will parallel Rt. 413.  The goals of the estimated $5 million project are three-pronged.

The ten-foot wide asphalt trail aims to encourage more activity for somerset residents.  The trail is also part of the beautification of the area, which in turn will add the to tourist appeal of the region.

"We want to market (the trail) as another piece of this puzzle that Somerset County is a haven for recreational tourism.  Hiking and biking and paddling, golfing, fishing, hunting, boating, all of those types of pursuits," says Clint Sterling, director of recreation and parks for the county.

The five-mile-long trail will begin at Davis Lane in Marion and will go to Hinman Lane at the entrance of Crisfield.  We're told the design phase of the project is almost complete, with funding coming from two state grants, from the MD SHA and MDOT.
