47 ABC teams up with Salisbury PD to participate in the 2018 Polar Bear Plunge

47 ABC's Julian Sadur and Justina Coronel teamed up with Salisbury Police to take on the Polar Bear Challenge at Sandy Point Park. All to help fund Special Olympic Athletes in Maryland.

It's an event that lives up to its name because you literally plunge into waters that only a polar bear would want to swim in.

The team went head first into the waters and dived into the fundraising.

Detective Jason Caputo says, "This isn't for us we're not getting paid to get out here, we just come out here have a good time, every event we do is for Special Olympics and to better the community."

As of Friday, over $175,000 had been raised for Special Olympics Maryland.

Money that will go to benefit more than 7,500 athletes in the state.

"It's an honor to serve our community, that's why we're really out here doing this thing for and glad to have you out there partnering with us out here, it takes a lot to go out here because it is freezing cold," Cpl. Mike Loring tells 47 ABC.
