33rd annual MLK banquet held at Wicomico County Youth & Civic Center
On Monday we celebrated and reflected on the life of Doctor Martin Luther King Junior. A civil rights leader who's life was taken all too soon. Although it's been almost half a century since he was murdered many across Delmarva carry his traditions to this day.
In Salisbury more than 700 people packed the Wicomico County Youth Civic Center and gathered for the Martin Luther King annual banquet. The banquet is in its 33rd year and includes dinner entertainment, a rendition of Martin Luther King, Juniors speech, and the presentation of the Annual MLK Jr. Awards.
"To keep the dream alive, to keep the memories floating and to acknowledge that that was wisdom that has been unparalleled since he was assassinated. We need to bridge the gaps that exist in our communities, let everybody come together and understand that righteousness stands today," said President of the Tri County MLK coalition Jesse T. Ballard.
Planning for the banquet takes place months in advance, and Ballard, says he hopes one day the younger generation will take over the beloved tradition.
