UPDATE: Officials rule Salisbury fire as arson; investigation ongoing
A fire remains under investigation, after authorities rule the incident as arson, in Wicomico County.
The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office says on Monday, just after 1:30 PM, the Salisbury Fire Department responded to a house fire in the 600 block of Dawn Court, in Salisbury. According to the report, the fire was discovered by a passerby, and 20 firefighters put out the fire in 30 minutes.
Officials report that the cause of the fire was arson, and it began in the living room of the home. On Monday, 47ABC learned that there is substantial damage due to smoke inside of the home. The home was apparently a project of Habitat For Humanity, in Wicomico County.
Habitat for Humanity of Wicomico County says they are asking for support and donations of clothing, shoes, school supplies, or Christmas gifts to help the homeowner and her two children. Donations of food or gift cards to restaurants to help the family offset the costs of eating out while they are away from their home are also being accepted.
Donations can be dropped off at the Habitat ReStore Tuesday through Friday from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, and on Saturday from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The estimated total damage is reportedly $50,000. This incident was investigated my the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office and the Wicomico County Sheriff's Office.
