Officials: Dog dies in Cheswold blaze; cause under investigation
A dog died as a result of a fire, after officials say they were initially looking for a woman in the Cheswold home on Thursday afternoon.
According to the Cheswold Volunteer Fire Company, at 1:32 PM, firefighters assisted by units in Dover and Hartly, responded to a blaze at a home on Sunnyfield Lane.
Officials say that firefighters rescued two unconscious dogs from the fire. One of the dogs was revived, but the other died. No one else was injured.
Firefighters were reportedly looking for a woman who they believed was in the home at the time, but they did not find her.
The blaze began in the master bedroom and it took 25 minutes to control. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshal's Office.
