Lewes woman arrested in package theft; suspect wanted in ongoing investigation
Police say that they are currently investigating the thefts of multiple packages from front porches, in which one suspect was arrested and a second is still at large, on Wednesday, in Lewes.
According to Delaware State Police, at 4:20 PM on Wednesday, a suspect was seen running up to a front porch on Acorn Way, Oakwood Village, in Lewes. The suspect would then reportedly take packages and drive away in a white Kia Optima.
Investigators say the suspect was identified as 55-year-old Mary Murphy of Lewes. Murphy was arrested on felony theft, theft, tampering with physical evidence, falsifying business records, hindering prosecution, third degree conspiracy, criminal mischief, and two counts of third degree criminal trespass.
Murphy was arraigned out of Justice of the Peace Court three and released on $3,351 unsecured bond. A second suspect in the case was identified as 32-year-old Derek Rice of Lewes. Rice is described as a 5'05" tall white man, who weighs 160 lbs. and has red hair and blue eyes.
Troopers obtained a warrant for the arrest of Rice, but they have not been able to find him. The investigation is ongoing and anyone who knows where Rice is, or anyone who has been a victim of this crime, is asked to call Troop Seven at 302-644-5020.
