Gov. Carney and Operation Warm team up to surprise local kids with coats

Thursday was the perfect day for a surprise for school children before their Christmas break.

A surprise that was delivered by Gov. John Carney himself, who was captured on camera going above and beyond at West Seaford Elementary.

Kids received brand new warm winter coats, all thanks to Operation Warm, a non-profit dedicated to keeping children warm by providing them with winter coats when they need it most.

"The people that participated in Operation Warm were the ones that made the donations and I had the opportunity to see the smiles on the children's face, to know that they'll be warm through the winter months it was really pretty special," says Gov. Carney.

In August, Gov. Carney started an initiative to stock basic-needs closets in 45 high-need Delaware schools. Thursday's event is just one way to continue that work.
