Pennsylvania man arrested in connection to Georgetown shooting

A Pennsylvania man was arrested, after police say he was responsible for a shooting at a motel, in Sussex County.

The Georgetown Police Department says on Sunday, around 6:30 PM, officers were dispatched to the Classic Motel, on South DuPont Highway, for a shots fired complaint, in Georgetown. Officers reportedly learned from the victim that a man had driven a black Ford Expedition into the parking lot and approached them.

According to the report, after approaching the victim, the suspect displayed a handgun and then shot towards victim. No one was injured during the incident. The suspect reportedly then fled the scene.

With assistance form from Delaware State Police, Georgetown PD identified the suspect as 51-year-old David Tharp, of Philadelphia, PA, and his vehicle was located at a home in the Oak Orchard area. At that time, Tharp was taken into custody without incident.

The 51-year-old is charged with reckless endangering first degree, assault first degree, aggravated menacing, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony at Justice of the Peace Court.

He was later turned over to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $45,00 secured bond.
