Mosquito Transmitted Viruses Detected in Delaware

West Nile Virus and Triple-E were detected in parts of Kent and New Castle County Delaware.

The announcement was made Thursday by DNREC and the Delaware Division of Public Health who took blood samples from chickens.

Thus far, there have been no reported cases of either virus found in humans or horses. Officials say they are taking precautions and monitoring the mosquito population.

There are no approved vaccines for these viruses. To reduce mosquito-breeding habitat and chances of transmission, residents should drain or remove water from outdoor areas that collect it.
