Man arrested after reportedly stealing vehicle in Harrington

Gabriel Rivera, 42, of Wilmington

A Wilmington man was arrested, after police say he stole a woman's vehicle, in Harrington.

The Harrington Police Department says on July 24, a woman reported that her vehicle was stolen from Connections on East Street, while she was inside the building, working. While investigating and reviewing video footage, police say they identified 42-year-old Gabriel Rivera Jr., of Wilmington, as the suspect. According to the report, Rivera was an acquaintance of the victim, and was seeking treatment at Connections at the time of the theft.

Police say that warrants for Rivera were then issued. On Wednesday, Rivera was arrested at the New Castle County Family Court by the Capital Police Department. Rivera was reportedly at the court on an unrelated case. The Harrington Police Department says that they then responded to the Smyrna Rest Stop where they met with the Capital Police Department, and took Rivera into custody.

Rivera was charged theft of a motor vehicle and driving with a suspended or revoked license. He was released on a $1,750 unsecured bond. Officials say that the vehicle was found in Wilmington, and returned to the victim.
