Blessing of the Combines attracts thousands to Snow Hill

For 19 years, the Annual Blessing of the Combines has been the cream of the crop in Snow Hill.

This celebration is a way to remind community members about the importance of agriculture and the hands behind all the hard work.

20 years ago, four community members decided to honor farmers and to let people know what farmers do.

Head chair, Becky Payne says, "It has grown, we try everything for people to learn about what the farmers, how much their equipment is, and the total, and the pleasures they get from farming their land."

In the first year, Snow Hill saw about 500 people. Almost two decades later, the event has grown into a crowd of over 3,000.

A combine is a versatile machine designed to efficiently harvest a variety of grain crops. And the event's biggest show stopper is the parade that is filled with tractors and combines.

The combine drivers are local, some from Virginia, Delaware, and Maryland.

But besides honoring farmers in the area, Blessing of the Combines is also way to bring the community together.

Organizers have already started planning next year's event. The 20th Annual Blessing of the Combines will take place on August 4, 2018.
