Salisbury’s 2017 Youth Leadership Academy hopes to attract young leaders

This weekend an annual youth leadership conference is taking place in Salisbury.

Salisbury Youth Civics Council is inviting local high school students to attend their 2017 Youth Leadership Academy.

It will take place in the Henson building at Salisbury University from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday.

The biggest take away is that it will allow students to interact with local leaders and even participate in panel discussions.

We spoke with Salisbury Mayor Jake Day, who says this is a great way to have students step up to become leaders.

"By coming and participating in the youth leadership academy and events like this that we put on year round, we believe this is a way to show how much you care about this place and it certainly is our way of showing you how much this place, this community, this city cares about you," Mayor Day says.

The conference is free of charge and is open to 8th-12th graders.
