DSP investigate pedestrian crash in Frederica

The Delaware State Police are investigating a motor vehicle crash, where a pedestrian was injured south of Frederica.

According to police, around 9:12 p.m. Saturday, July 8, 2017, 34-year-old Jennifer R. Valentine, was driving a GMC Yukon northbound on Bay Road in the right lane approaching Milford Neck Road.

From there, police say the pedestrian, known as 41-year-p;d David M. Cane, of Milford, was standing partially in the right lane in the path of the vehicle on Bay Rd, when he was struck with the vehicle’s right side.

Valentine was able to bring her car to a stop on the road north of the pedestrian.

Cane was treated on scene for his injuries prior to being transported by EMS to the Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital for his non-life threatening injuries. Cane was cited for Failure to Carry a Light on Public Roadway.

Jennifer R. Valentine and her passengers were properly restrained at the time of the crash and were not injured.

Troopers remind pedestrians to use caution and safety when walking on or near roadways. When walking near a roadway always make yourself visible to drivers by wearing bright/light colored clothing and reflective materials.

Pedestrians that are walking at night must carry a flashlight and use them properly for added safety.
