Dover Police: Man charged with third DUI after fleeing traffic stop
Dover Police say a man was arrested early Friday morning after he was reportedly driving under the influence and tried to flee from police during a traffic stop.
Just before 1 AM, officers on patrol near South New Street and Reed Street attempted to stop a green Jeep Cherokee that made a traffic violation, police said. The driver reportedly ignored the officers' signal to pull over and continuing driving to South Queen Street. There, police said the driver bailed from the Cherokee and fled on foot.
A Dover Police K-9 was called in and tracked the man to the 100 block of South New Street, where he was arrested. He has been identified as 38-year-old Dennis Stevens Jr. and was found to have had two previous DUIs.
Stevens was charged with third offense DUI, disregarding a police officer's signal, resisting arrest and multiple traffic violations. He has been committed to the James T. Vaughn Correctional Center on a $6,900 cash bond.
