Local Petsmart’s take part in National Pet Adoption Weekend

If you walk in to a local PetSmart this weekend you will find cats and dogs looking for a home.  It is all part of National Pet Adoption Weekend.

"We're looking to have forever homes.  We are partnering up cats and dogs who are currently with charities," says Sharon Carney, Assistant Store Manager for PetSmart in Salisbury.

The organizations that will be working with PetSmart this weekend include the Wicomico Humane Society, Delmarva Cat Connection, Westside Animal Shelter, and Wags to Wishes.

The animals that will be there for adoption will all be spayed or neutered, and up to date on their shots ranging from 1 to 7 years old.

PetSmart is also working on a program of their own to help feed homeless animals.

"We're also having a food can drive and it's actually going to be the month of May.  A lot of our customers have generously donated cans already.  We've already raised $400 for cats and dogs," said Carney.

The donated food will also be used to make sure pets that have not been adopted will also be fed until they find their forever home.

"What we want to do with the donation drive is make sure all the animals who are going home with families this weekend have all kinds of food that will be provided to them," said Carney.

If you want to help out PetSmart will be running their can drive through the month of May at all area locations.
