Cambridge woman charged with arson for public library fire

An arrest has been made in connection to an intentionally set fire inside the Dorchester County Public Library in Cambridge on Wednesday.

Deputy State Fire Marshals arrested Bonnie M. Andrews, 18, of Cambridge, charging her with first degree arson, malicious burning, malicious destruction of property and several other charges, officials said.

Fire Marshals say a fire was set intentionally in a trash can in the second floor women's restroom at the library shortly after noon on Wednesday. Library employees and patrons reportedly got the fire under control just before the arrival of Rescue Fire Company responders.

Investigators say the fire caused damages estimated at $5,000.

Cambridge Police and State Fire Marshals developed Andrews as the suspect during their joint investigation, officials said. Andrews has been committed without bond at the Dorchester County Detention Center.

Andrews could face more than 41 years in prison and up to $61,500 in fines if found guilty on all charges, officials said.
