Dover Police investigating early morning shooting at Simon Circle

Dover Police say they are investigating a shooting that took place in the area of Simon Circle just after midnight on Wednesday.

The victim, a 24-year-old man, reportedly told police that he was near the Simon Circle Community Building when a vehicle drove by with a front passenger clearly armed with a shotgun. As the man took cover, the passenger took a shot at him, police said.

The victim, who police say was legally open carrying a handgun, shot back at the vehicle as it sped away. The victim was transported to Bayhealth Kent General Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries to his face and hands, officials said.

Police say the investigation continues and are asking for anyone who may have more information to call the Dover Police Department at 302-736-7130 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333. Tips can be made anonymously, police said.
