Salisbury man arrested after reportedly throwing hot coffee at deputy
The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says a Salisbury man was arrested Monday morning after he threw hot coffee at a deputy during an eviction.
At around 9:23 AM, police say a deputy was in the process of helping to evict a tenant from a residence in the 400 block of Oriole Place in Salisbury. This tenant, 57-year-old Donald Lee Smullen, reportedly became angry and refused to leave.
Police say Smullen began yelling and threw hot coffee at the deputy. The deputy reportedly told Smullen he was under arrest, but Smullen refused to comply and tried to pull away from the deputy. The deputy was eventually able to handcuff Smullen, at which point he was transported to the Central Booking Unit and processed.
Smullen is charged with second degree assault and disturbing the peace. Police say Smullen was detained on a temporary commitment for continuously refusing to cooperate with deputies.
