Seasonal stock advice for May

Monday marked the first day of trading in May. According to experts, it’s historically the mark of one of the weakest periods for stocks.

The May- through-September window brings in far lower stock returns in comparison to the October through April time frame.

So tips for seasonal trading strategy? Well, one economics professor at Salisbury University says don’t try to time the market. He says it can be much too complicated for anyone that’s not a major hedge fund.

Dr. Tylor Claggett continues, “For the average person, just a good solid position in a mutual fund that tries to mimic the market is probably as good a strategy as any. It’s not very exciting, but when you really think about the long term it’s probably the best way to accumulate wealth.”

The Dow closed 117.52 points higher today.
