Fiber-optic ring to bring faster internet to Sussex Co.

Sussex County facilities are about to get a big boost in internet speed. This is all thanks to a new underground fiber ring set up to go around the city of Georgetown. The new fiber-optic line will connect the County Administrative Offices to outlying offices in the area, including the airport.

The Sussex County Council decided Tuesday to set up a five-year contract with Broad Valley Micro Fiber Networks, which could increase the local government’s network connection by up to 100 times.

Officials also say the ring will better ensure a constant network connection for County facilities. Construction on the fiber ring is expected to begin this spring, and be complete by fall.
