Kevin Garnett had 26 points and 16 rebounds to lead Boston to a 96-89 victory over visiting Cleveland. It gives the Celtics a three-games-to-two advantage headed into tomorrow's Game 6 of the NBA's Eastern Conference semifinals on the Cavaliers' home floor.

LOS ANGELES (AP) -

Kobe Bryant led all of the Lakers starters into double figures with 26 points in a 111-104 win over the Jazz, giving L.A. a three-games-to-two edge in their Western Conference semifinal with Game 6 tomorrow night in Utah.

DALLAS (AP) -

Dallas beat Detroit 3-1 to put an end to the Red Wings' nine-game playoff winning streak. But the Stars need to win three more while the Red Wings are one victory away from the Stanley Cup finals.

CLEVELAND (AP) -

C.C. Sabathia (suh-BATH'-ee-uh) pitched five shutout innings in Cleveland's 2-0 blanking of the visiting Oakland A's. That runs the total of consecutive scoreless innings for Indians starters to 43 1-3. That's the longest run by a major league team in one season since a 54-inning streak by Baltimore's starters in early September of 1974, according to the Elias Sports Bureau.

BALTIMORE (AP) -

Big Brown is an early 1-to-2 favorite to win Saturday's Preakness Stakes at Pimlico. The Kentucky Derby winner is one of 13 horses entered in the second jewel of horse racing's Triple Crown series.
