Dagsboro, DE.- With the high school regular season kickoff just nine days away, the Indians of Indian River hosted 2013 DIAA State Champion Hodgson, in a final test run before the season begins.
IR Head Coach Ray Steele said that last year when the Indians' went to Hodgson to scrimmage the Eagles last season, they got "blown off the field", but is very excited about the effort his team gave this time around.
Eagles' QB Ray Jones stole the show, dazzling the crowd with his Madden-esque moves. The 2013 Delaware Offensive Player of the Year looked to be in midseason form breaking off long runs, and leaving defenders. The Indians defense did however regain their composure, and we're able to get a couple of stops against Jones and the Eagles.
The interesting dynamic for Indian River on offense is their quarterback situation. As of right now, juniors DeShawn Aiken, Jake Hudson, and Ryan A (DNP) are all in competition for that starting spot. Coach Steele said he's liked what he's seen out of all of them so far.
The Indians will begin the regular season on Friday, September 5th at Stephen Decatur, before going to Henlopen rival Smyrna on September 12th to begin conference play.
