Choptank River Lighthouse Receives New Exhibit

Posted: Updated:

CAMBRIDGE, Md- There's a new exhibit this year at the Choptank River Lighthouse, a fifth order fresnel lens.

The lens was given on a permanent loan from the U.S. Coast Guard, and the Cambridge Lighthouse Association told 47ABC the lens was used many decades ago in to cast a bright light across the ocean to warn mariners of dangers shoals. The lens has already attracted visitors from as close as Cambridge, and as far as Australia

Greg Wright, former president of Choptank River Lighthouse says, "We're excited about it, the lens itself the worth of it is about $250,000. It's displayed on a mahogany, pure mahogany pedestal, it's absolutely stunning."

The lighthouse will be open from now until October for free self guided tours.
