SUSSEX CO., Del. - A New Castle man is behind bars, after he reportedly sexually assaulted a 22-year-old woman. Delaware State Police say on Sunday, Detectives started investigating a reported sexual assault that had happened on Friday, August 15th in a taxi cab.

That investigation apparently found that around 9:00 PM, Khalid Chablaoui, the owner and operator of the I-Taxi cab service, picked up a 22-year-old woman after she flagged a taxi to get a ride home. Police say the woman left The Lighthouse bar and restaurant in Dewey Beach and got into the front passenger seat of the taxi.

According to the report, on the ride home, the woman fell asleep, and woke up to Chablaoui sexually assaulting her. Police say the victim forced Chablaoui off of her, and demanded that he take her home. He dropped her off at her home, around 10:15 PM.

Troopers say they connected Chablaoui to the incident, and he turned himself in on Thursday. Chablaoui was charged with rape 4th degree, and is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $20,000 bond. The incident remains under investigation.

Anyone with information about this incident, or others involving Chablaoui, is asked to contact the Criminal Investigative Unit at Troop 4 at 302-856-5850 or Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
