OCEAN CITY, Md. - One man was arrested, after reportedly attempting to flee from an early morning traffic stop. Ocean City Police say on Thursday, around 3:10 AM, Officers attempted to stop a vehicle, after it cut through a parking lot, went onto Coastal Highway, and nearly crashed into on-coming traffic near 65th Street.

The fully marked patrol vehicle reportedly then watched the suspect vehicle fail to stay in a single lane, and continue southbound at a high rate of speed, before Officers turned on their lights and sirens.  The Officers then apparently watched the vehicle run a red light on 49th Street, and turn into a parking lot, which it promptly exited, drove back onto Coastal Highway, and made a u-turn at 48th Street, all while apparently not yielding to right of way traffic.

Police say they clocked the vehicle driving at 98 miles per hour near 65th Street, before it collided with a condominium building at 72nd Street and Coastal Highway. The crash reportedly destroyed electrical meters and an electrical box, and spilled electrical fluid onto Coastal Highway.

Police say at the scene they arrested 21-year-old Carlton Stephenson III, of Jessup, Maryland, with no injuries. Stephenson was charged with driving under the influence, along with multiple traffic violations. He is being held at the Ocean City Public Safety Building, awaiting an initial appearance.

After the crash, Police say Northbound traffic was re-routed for four hours while the scene was cleared, and electrical crews repaired the damages, and restore the building's power.
