Salisbury Fire Department Celebrates 142nd Anniversary

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - The Salisbury Fire Department is celebrating 142 years of its dedication to protecting the city's residents.

Its first Open House in years featured hands-on activities including vehicle rescue demonstrations, wall rappelling's, and C-P-R demonstrations. Fire officials tell us these skills are not only fun to demonstrate at open houses, but they serve as great opportunities to show the community how the crew works together in order to save lives.

Captain James Jester explained, "We want to make sure that they understand what we do, why we do it, and let them know that it is their fire department. Their city fire department."

During car rescues, the "Jaws Of Life" is a technique that is used most often in order to save a trapped driver or passenger, explains Captain Cory Polidore.

"We've had to use this quite a few times, actually. There was an accident down Riverside Drive earlier in the spring, we actually had to cut somebody out." recalled Polidore.

Visitors are welcome to visit and tour the Salisbury Fire Department at anytime.
