Recent Drownings Have Lifeguards Extending Extra Word Of Caution

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - From the bay to the ocean, drownings and water injuries have been making headlines on Delmarva. Ocean City Beach Patrol says despite a recent wave of incidents, it hasn't been a particularly above-average season.

"Many drownings occur when people never intended to be in water over their head. It's really people not paying attention to the basic thing, of only swimming when a lifeguard is on duty and we ask people here to always check in with the lifeguard," says Butch Arbin, of the Ocean City Beach Patrol.

Arbin also stresses not to swim at night. He says water hides it's true conditions whether it's the ocean or even a pond. There can always be unseen danger beneath the surface.
