HALO Reopens Doors After Two Week Closure

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md - HALO's women and children shelter has reopened its doors after a two-week revamp. The facility has added beds to accommodate more people and gave the place a fresh coat of paint. Rooms dedicated to GED classes along with office spaces for interns and life coaches have been updated.

And while it displaces people for this short period every year, they make sure everyone is aware in advance of the closure and set up with social workers. This year, however, was a little more difficult than normal.

"It has been difficult. Some of the local shelters themselves have been closed, you know renovations, some different things. So it has been more of a challenge , but we always try to work with people and make sure they have placement before we close," says Megan Griffiths, the day facility manager for HALO.

The shelter currently only houses women and children, but is in the early stages of opening an all male shelter right next door. They say they hope to open those doors as early as November of this year.
