Girl Scouts Host Unicorn Bike Run - 47 ABC - Delmarva's Choice

Girl Scouts Host Unicorn Bike Run

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md- Girl Scouts hit the streets today in Delmar to raise money, and they joined forces with an unlikely group.

Despite the tough exterior, and roaring engines.

These bikers have a soft spot for the girl scouts, and their emblem says it all... it's a unicorn riding a motorcycle.

Troop leader Cassandra Bello says, "One of our little girls said we have a unicorn for our crest, let's do a unicorn riding a motorcycle with stars coming out of the tail pipe."

This is the first ever unicorn bike run hosted by Delmar girl scout troop 710.
But how exactly did these girls get involved with motorcycles?

Bello replied, "I have twelve girls and seven of our girls, they all had family members, close family members siblings, older siblings, some parents who rode motorcycles and we thought well lets bridge those two, bring those two together and make it a fundraiser."

Biker participant John Elliot says, "Well I have daughters and I'm just into trying to support the community and that's what its about."

The troop picks a charity every year. This year the proceeds from tickets sold and vendor sales will be donated. A huge portion to the Delmar School system and the rest for the troop.

But since the girls were not allowed to get on them, they created a contest and voted on the bikes. They even came up with categories.

Girl Scout Junior Emma Czwalina says "American, metric, vintage, I think it's called 123 and kid's choice."

It wasn't just about the fun today, the girls say this is a big responsibility they take seriously.

Junior Girl Scout says, "We're very nice people and we like to do community service."

The Girl Scouts also told us the portion of the money allocated for the troop will go towards their camping funds and to financially sponsor at least two girls to join their troop.
