Assateague Island Boosts Economy

BERLIN, Md.-  A new report from the National Park Service reveals that Assateague Island National Seashore is bringing in big bucks.

Roughly 2 million visitors reportedly went to the island in 2013, and spent more than 84 million dollars in the communities near the park.

That spending supported nearly one thousand jobs in the local area. The national park tourism is a major driving force for the economy.

According to the report, most visitors spent money on lodging, food and beverages, and gas and oil.
