Police Officer Injured By Chemical Grenade During Camden Home Search

Posted: Updated:

CAMDEN, Del. - A Police Officer was injured, when a chemical grenade exploded during an arrest at Camden home.

Camden Police say on Thursday, around 8:00 AM, Officers went to a Kathleen Court home, to execute a search warrant for drugs and paraphernalia, as part of an ongoing investigation. At the home, Police say they took 38-year-old Jennifer Reynolds into custody, and three juveniles were released to a family member, before the search of the home started.

During the search, a Camden Police Officer who was searching the garage, opened a file cabinet drawer, and a chemical munitions grenade exploded. The Officer suffered minor injuries. Camden-Wyoming Fire Company, Magnolia Fire Company, and the Delaware Department of Natural Resources and Environment Control responded to the scene.

They determined that it was a CN grenade, and the chemicals were contained within the home, so neighboring residents were not in the hazard area. The Town of Camden then condemned the home, until the chemical has been removed by a qualified contractor.

Reynolds was charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, conspiracy 3rd degree, assault 3rd degree, three counts of endangering the welfare of a child, and possession of a destructive weapon. Her arraignment was pending at the time of this release. We'll bring you more information as it becomes available.
