More Bikers, Better Business For Rehoboth Bike Shop

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Bike traffic appears to be up in Rehoboth Beach.

After the opening of Gordons Pond Trail at Cape Henlopen State Park last month, Rehoboth Beach Police Chief Keith Banks says more bicyclists have been pedaling through. However, between the beautiful weather and recent holiday, Chief Banks says there could be a number of factors leading to the hike.

George Panarello, owner of All Wheels Bike and Scooter Shop, says either way, the hike has been a big boost.

"There's definitely been an increase, some rentals are up, some sales are up, a lot of the conversation of the completed trail, it gives them a new loop," says Panarello. "It's another opportunity to stay off Route One, which a lot of people consider dangerous and in a lot of ways it is."

Chief Banks says they're working on educating residents about bike safety, and have given out a number of warnings. Police are urging all bikers, especially on Route One, to assume that cars do not know they are there, and to use extra caution.
