Wind Turbines Could Be Far-Off In Somerset Co.

Posted: Updated:

SOMERSET COUNTY, Md. - It appears that wind energy will not be coming to Somerset County anytime soon.

County commissioners passed a motion to have the planning commission look at the project, then submit a recommendation back to them no later than October 3rd. County officials say the planning commission will have to hold a hearing, and once it gets back to the commissioners, they will have to hold another public hearing as well.

The discussion comes months after Governor O'Malley vetoed a bill that would have essentially killed the project, which includes 25 wind turbines that are expected to bring more than $40 million to the county.

Opponents of the project worry about how it will affect the Patuxent Naval Air Station across the Chesapeake Bay.
