Ridgely Teen Raises $7,700 For Make-A-Wish Foundation

RIDGELY, Md. - Kids across the Mid-Atlantic battling a life-threatening medical condition will get to have their wish, thanks to people like Danny Lockhart.

The Ridgely teen, diagnosed with a debilitating form of scoliosis, raised $7,700 dollars this year for the Make-A-Wish-Foundation. This surpassed his fundraising goal of $7,500, which is the average cost of a child's wish.

Danny founded his annual fundraising walk, "Danny's Walk for Wishes," back in 2012 after he became a wish recipient. Since then, he has collectively fundraised $13,100.

Make-A-Wish reached out to Danny after he underwent a spinal fusion surgery. The surgery went fine, but shortly after, Danny realized that an area in his neck had been dislocated. He was unaware of it for about three months before he was finally able to get treatment, so his neck never fully went into place. Through the foundation, he was able to make a trip to Ocean City, and it inspired him to give back.

"I wanted to do more because I know there's going to be people way worse than I am, because as bad as I was, I got off lucky in comparison, and I wanted to help out more than just a little donation," says Danny.

Danny says he plans to continue his annual walk in Caroline County for as long as he can. To learn more, visit his Facebook page.
