DSP Search For Driver In Wilmington Hit-And-Run

WILMINGTON, Del. - Delaware State Police say they are investigating a serious hit and run crash in which a pedestrian was struck on West Newport Pike shortly after midnight this morning.

According to reports, preliminary investigation indicates that the crash occurred at approximately 12:04 AM as a 49-year-old male pedestrian, with a last known address of Georgetown, was struck by an unknown vehicle as he was standing in the westbound lanes of West Newport Pike in the area of Harding Avenue, west of Newport. The vehicle reportedly did not stop and fled the scene in an unknown direction.

Police say the 49-year-old male pedestrian suffered multiple traumatic injuries and was transported to the Christiana Hospital Trauma Center where he was admitted in critical condition.

Troopers reportedly continue to analyze evidence collected at the scene to determine the make and model of the striking vehicle.

The westbound lanes of West Newport Pike were reportedly closed for approximately 1 hour while the crash was investigated and cleared. Troopers say they are continuing to investigate this incident.
